Term of Office:   30/04/2025
Appointed by: Governing Board / Trust

George grew up on his parent’s farm at Grogley and was the third generation of his family to attend Nanstallon School. Horticulture was an obvious career and undertook formal training at Cannington College of Horticulture in Somerset.  Following various positions, he became Senior Horticultural Training Supervisor for Ultra Training managing a 3 Acre nursery workshop for 20 YTS trainees with special educational needs.

For the last 30 years he has been a self-employed gardener and at the same time was a sessional lecturer with Duchy College for 13 years and Head Gardener at Pine Lodge Gardens near St. Austell for 4 years. As part of his gardening, George has looked after local gardens and those of the Duchy of Cornwall’s Holiday Cottage enterprise. From September 2020 George has been tending the gardens for Nanstallon School and supporting their life skills aims and elements of the science curriculum.

In 1990 George began speaking to local organisations on gardening related topics and has now given over 1,400. This led to being a panel member on BBC Radio Cornwall’s Garden Line answering listener’s questions.

Locally, George is programme secretary for Nanstallon Gardening Club, Chair of trustees for Nanstallon Cemetery, member of The Ruthern Valley Players, they produce a pantomime at Withiel each year (Covid allowing,) and organiser of bi-annual flower festivals at Withiel Church.

As a foundation governor, George represents a link in the school’s historic chain and is committed to supporting and challenging the school so that children continue to thrive in our shared community.
