Arts

We embrace and integrate the ARTS to develop more complete children who have curious minds and think critically.

The arts are essential in life. They can shape and define who we are.

MUSIC CURRICULUM
ART CURRICULUM
DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM

Dance, drama, music and visual arts are fundamental to cultural engagement and personal development.  Artistic experience fuels imagination and in turn imagination fuels creativity.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, Expressive Art and Design is broken down into two aspects:

  • Exploring and Using Media and Materials
  • Being Imaginative

Exploring and Using Media and Materials

This is about how children experiment with media and materials finding out about their properties and modifying and manipulating them. It includes exploring sounds, patterns, movement and different tools and techniques.

Being Imaginative

This is about children’s explorations into the world of pretence, building on their experiences of the real world and transforming them into something new – whether through role play, music, pretend play, block play or small world play or a range of other areas.

Key Stage 1 and 2 Arts

Our curriculum links can be found on each medium term ‘topic web’. It is our intention to develop an individual arts log of each child’s experience of:

  • Taking part in arts activities
  • Researching artists or craftspeople and their work
  • Sharing their arts discoveries

Each Child journals their art log on Seesaw

Throughout the key stages children have the opportunity to:

  • Paint
  • Draw
  • Sculpt
  • Print
  • Collage
  • Weave and sew
